As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When it comes to ants, the adage couldn’t be more accurate. In fact, taking preventative steps to protect your home against ants is cost-effective from a number of perspectives, including a greatly reduced treatment cost and prevention of damage to your home’s structure.
The question is, is there still time for preventative treatment or is a full, corrective treatment already necessary in your home?
Traditionally, preventative treatment simply means treating the exterior of your home to prevent ants from entering in the first place. Full treatment is required when ants have made their way into your home’s walls and invaded the hard to reach nooks and crannies. In this situation, a great deal more work may be needed to eradicate the ants.
So how do you determine which treatment is necessary? We recommend starting by answering the following three questions:
If you can answer yes to all three of the above questions, preventative (exterior only) treatment is likely to be successful. We have found that here in New England, preventative treatments completed before the end of June have the highest rate of success. However, if you answered no to any of the above questions, it’s best that you consult with a pest control expert to determine which course of treatment is best.
