**Both mosquitos and ticks were contenders for being carriers of Coronavirus but thanks to **[**new research by Advanced Symbolics Inc.**](https://pestworldmag.npmapestworld.org/2020/04/14/do-mosquitoes-and-ticks-transmit-covid-19-experts-say-no/)** it is confirmed that ticks and mosquitos don’t transmit COVID-19. While this is a relief for residents in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, both insects carry potentially harmful diseases.**

## Avoiding Mosquitos and Ticks

- Use an insect repellent whenever you’ll be spending time outdoors. The [**NPMA recommends**](https://www.pestworld.org/pest-control-help/pest-control-faqs/mosquitoes/#direct-link-what-can-homeowners-do-to-reduce-the-risks-from-mosquitos) an EPA-approved repellent that contains at least 20% DEET.
- Mosquitos only need a half-inch of standing water to breed so keep stagnant water out of flowerpots, baby pools, buckets, tires, toys, and other objects.
- Cut grass low and remove weeds and debris, and keep shrubbery trimmed.
- Wear light-colored clothing, as it can be easier to spot any ticks hitching a ride home with you.
- Avoid walking through tall grass.
- Ensure all screened windows are without holes.
- Always perform thorough checks on you, your family, and your pets following an excursion.
